Cofafer 100ml Pharmacological Properties
Pharmacotherapeutic group: Injectable antianaemic preparations based on iron dextran.
ATC vet code: QB03AC90.
Pharmacodynamic Properties
Iron dextran is an anti-anaemic acting by significantly increasing the hemoglobin level. After administration, the iron is stored in the tissues, then gradually released from the complex with the dextran. It is incorporated into hemoglobin in the form of proteins such as ferritin and hemosiderin. Iron is administered in the form of an iron dextran complex to avoid toxic effects of free iron.
Pharmacokinetic Characteristics
After administration, approximately 60% of the iron is absorbed after 3 days and 90% after 1 to 3 weeks.
