What is Vetmedin used for?
Vetmedin Chewable Tablets are used to manage certain types of heart failure, including congestive heart failure due to atrioventricular valvular insufficiency (AVVI) or dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).

How it works:
Vetmedin helps the heart pump blood more efficiently. It helps open blood vessels, reducing the effort required to pump blood to and from the heart.
What you should know:
Vetmedin is not a cure for congestive heart failure, but can improve quality of life. Therapy may be indicated for the duration of the animal’s life.
How to give this medication:
Vetmedin Chewable Tablets should be administered orally. The normal total daily dose is 0.23 mg/lb divided into 2 portions, approximately 12 hours apart. Give this medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand the directions, ask the veterinarian or pharmacist to explain them to you.
If you miss a dose:
If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one as directed. Do not double dose.
Vetmedin should not be used in:
Do not use Vetmedin in dogs with diabetes mellitus or other serious metabolic diseases. Do not give to dogs younger than 6 months of age, pregnant or lactating dogs, or dogs intended for breeding.
Possible side effects:
Some patients may exhibit reactions, including weakness, coughing, lethargy, poor appetite, depression, seizures, restlessness, urinary accidents and diarrhea. If you observe any of these side effects, contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.
